Wedding_ImageGay Weddings In Vermont...As It Should Be!

April 7th, 2009 was a momentous day in Vermont!  it was the day that Vermont lawmakers voted to overturn Gov. Jim Douglas's veto of a bill legalizing same-sex marriage - making Vermont the fourth state to legalize gay marriage in the United States. Previously, gays and lesbians could get a civil union in Vermont, which meant they enjoyed some rights of married couples, but were denied rights relating to recognition from other states, divorce, immigration, and taxes. Tis no longer the case.

There are now...yes count them...six states currently that provide the rights and privileges for same-sex couples to marry - Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Maine!  It has been a long hard fight and the legal fights continue across the nation...but the walls of inequality are starting to crumble - state-by-state.

For the most up-to-date information, we encourage you visit Human Rights Campaign (HRC), and Million For Marriage for additional information and to support the fight.  These resources provide the most up-to-date information regarding gay and lesbian marriage rights throughout the country.  Another great resource is Family Equality Council, an organization that works tirelessly for the rights of Gay and Lesbian family issues.

But let's get to the really fun, exciting, maybe daunting and overwhelming aspects of planning your Vermont Gay Wedding.  Not unlike our heterosexual brothers and sisters weddings, your gay wedding is full of excitement, planning, details and a million things to consider.  And when you really parallel a gay marriage celebration to a straight marriage celebration, there really aren't that many differences - other than the obvious - it's a same-sex couple union.  What time of year?  How many guests?  Reception or elegant seated dinner?  Ah, but then the differences begin to arise.  Who pays for what?  Is there a supportive family behind you that is going to chip in on the expenses?  Do the brides both wear dresses, or for that matter a white wedding dress?

It's Your Vermont Gay Wedding...So You Decide How To Make The Whole Exciting Affair Come To Life!
